1. Estimates & Booking
How far in advance should I book my move?
To ensure availability, we recommend booking your move 2 to 4 weeks in advance. If you are planning to move at the end of the month or during the peak summer season (May–September), booking at least a month ahead is highly advised. As a busy Massachusetts Moving Company, our calendar fills up quickly during these periods.
What is the difference between a Binding and a Non-Binding Estimate?
This is a critical legal distinction in the moving industry:
- Binding Estimate: A guaranteed price for the services and inventory listed in the quote. Even if the move takes longer than expected, you pay the quoted price.
- Non-Binding Estimate: A “best guess” based on the mover’s experience. The final cost will be determined by the actual weight of the shipment or the actual hours worked. For a better understanding of our rates, you can View Moving Costs here.
Do you require a deposit to secure a move date?
Yes, we require a small security deposit to reserve your specific date and moving crew. This deposit is fully applied to the final balance of your move.
2. Pricing & Payment
How are moving costs calculated?
- Local Moves: Typically charged by an hourly rate based on the number of movers and trucks required.
- Long-Distance Moves: Usually calculated based on the distance and the total volume or weight of your belongings. Additional factors include Moving Services such as professional packing, fuel surcharges, and travel time.
Are there any “hidden” fees I should be aware of?
At Bees Moving ST, we pride ourselves on transparency. All potential charges—including travel time, fuel surcharges, and stairs—are discussed upfront during the estimate process and documented in your contract. We do not have hidden fees that appear only on moving day.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Cash, Major Credit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX), and Certified Checks. Please note that credit card transactions may be subject to a standard processing fee.
3. Packing & Preparation
What items are prohibited from being moved?
For safety and legal reasons, we cannot transport hazardous materials (propane tanks, aerosol cans, paint, ammunition), perishable food, or live plants for long-distance trips. We also strongly recommend that you transport “High-Value Items” such as jewelry, currency, and important legal documents in your personal vehicle.
Can I leave my clothes in the dresser drawers?
Yes, you may leave lightweight clothing in dresser drawers. However, please remove heavy items, books, fragile objects, and valuables. This ensures the structural integrity of the furniture and the safety of our movers.
Do you provide packing materials for DIY packing?
Absolutely. If you choose to pack yourself, we can provide professional-grade boxes, tape, and bubble wrap for a fee. However, for maximum protection, we recommend our full-service packing solutions.
4. Licensing & Insurance
Are you a licensed and insured moving company?
Yes. Bees Moving ST is a fully licensed carrier with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). You can verify our credentials using our DOT number. Hiring a licensed Massachusetts Moving Company ensures your move is governed by state and federal consumer protection laws.
What is “Released Value Protection”?
This is the basic liability coverage required by law, provided at no extra cost. It covers $0.60 per pound per article. For example, if a 100lb dresser is damaged, the liability is $60. For more valuable items, we recommend discussing “Full Value Protection” with our coordinators.
What should I do if an item is damaged?
While we take every precaution, accidents can happen. If you notice damage, please note it on the Bill of Lading during the unloading process and contact our claims department within 15 days. We are committed to a fair and professional claims resolution process.
5. Moving in Massachusetts
What happens if it rains or snows on my moving day?
New England weather is unpredictable, but we work year-round. Our crews use floor runners to protect your carpets and heavy-duty plastic wrap to shield your furniture from moisture. We only postpone moves in the event of extreme weather emergencies (e.g., state-mandated driving bans).
Do I need to secure a parking permit for the truck?
In towns like Ludlow or Granby, parking is usually not an issue. However, in denser areas or city centers, a parking permit may be required. While the customer is responsible for securing permits, we can provide guidance on which Select location typically requires them.
6. General Questions
Is it customary to tip the movers?
Tipping is not required, but it is a standard way to show appreciation for hard work. In the industry, a common tip is 15-20% of the total cost, which is then split among the crew members.
Do I need to be present for the entire move?
Yes, or a designated representative (18+ years old) must be present. You will need to sign the initial inventory, the Bill of Lading, and perform a final walkthrough to ensure that nothing was left behind and that all services were completed to your satisfaction.
